Well, maybe not so much a funny story as a long story! Between handbags and bondage gear, it is a long story but a very interesting one. You will have to read my book to hear it all. Anyway, I started to explore bondage gear shopping. I went into one shop, I lived in St Paul at the time, and they wanted $60 for a collar. Wow, that was a lot, and that was the cheapest of the 3 or 4 that they offered. I bought the $60 collar. It fell apart after using it for a few times. The hardware was sturdy but the lining fell out! I was thinking, in the back of my mind, “what was I thinking, I could craft a better collar for much less, if I only have some leather and some tools”. Then a friend of mine that knew I had a leather background asked me if I could fix a head harness of his. I saw it and thought, “if I only had leather and tools”. I looked into it and it turns out there was a Tandy Leather store within a few miles of the house, right there on the main drag through St. Paul. I bought a few cheap hand tools and fixed that there head harness. I also asked if he would mind if I tried to duplicate it. And there you have it, my first pattern, then off to ebay…

Wow! This works!

I am so happy to be blogging to you today. I got some new BDSM gear posted today. You know, not only do I hand-craft some really good gear, but I am hand-coding my website. I try to make each page unique, a different shopping experience. I must brag, my average page load time is faster than 91% of the sites out there!! I wish someone from my site or ANY WHERE, would give me some feedback.

I found this new shopping cart software that allows me to build a site like back in the old days… The old days on the internet when it wasn’t so back biting as it is today. Yup, the old days… 1999. Anyways. There are NO bells and whistles, although I might add some. I don’t even have a mailing list, you heard me, NO EMAIL LIST. I WILL NOT MARKET YOU. You will buy my gear and come back for more when you see the quality, touch the leather, wear it, YOU WILL BE BACK!

From the 70′s, flash forward to 1998, when my interest in BDSM started to influence my life. How did I go from handbags to bdsm cuffs? That’s a funny story….

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to tell this story now. I have 2 orders to ship so I have to get off this darned computer and CRAFT!! One of the orders is for my original bed bondage accessory. This piece has been copied by several different people! I have seen versions of this recreated by other companies, which of course I take as a compliment. I did a vending show one year, Fetish Fair Flea Market in Boston, and these sold like hotcakes. I vended from a vending room and I had this bondage bed accessory set up on a bed in the room. They sold like crazy, everyone had to have one. It was a delight to me as this is one of my very unique and original designs. Hope to finish my story later tonight, for now, it’s to the leather dungeon with me!!

How this all started 40 years ago….

My leather crafting started when I was 17 years old. I worked at a parttime job for a small company called Cyclepaks. They manufactured leather bicycle bags. The shop was on Long Island and the products were mostly sold in NYC. I started as a leather seamstress. My boss, who I would love to find, was a leather genius. His name is Jim Stowell, if anybody knows him, please direct him to this blog. The company did not last very long, it was a partnership but Jim did all of the work. Jim then started designing handbags. At this, he was genius. He met this woman and started dating her, together they created a company called Victoria Leather in the 70′s. His designs were unique in the handbag field as they were constucted using garment leather. Most of the leather bags at that time were made with stiff leather, the kind you can tool, but his innovative designs took off. This small company moved to PA and I came too. It was Jim, the chick he was dating and me. It was a small 3 person company. We would all spend 2 weeks crafting these gorgeous bags and then he would drive to NYC and peddle them on consignment to little leather shops. Every single bag was sewn by me, the only seamstress. Many of them, 40 years later, I’m sure still exist, which is quite cool when you think about it. The leather bags I sewed still hang in closests and over shoulders to this day, I am sure of it.
